Unpleasant smells can be caused by dust build-up, dirty filters, trapped debris or a blockage. Regular cleaning and maintenance can help prevent odours.
- Switch off and unplug the vacuum before cleaning or inspecting any parts.
- Empty the dust container: Remove collected dust and debris, and clean the container according to your model’s user manual.
- Clean the filters: Follow the manual’s instructions. Wash filters only if they are confirmed as washable, and allow them to dry completely before refitting.
- Check for blockages: Inspect the hose, tube, floorhead and brush roll for trapped dirt, hair or debris.
- Check the brush roll: Remove any tangled hair or fibres that may be causing the smell.
- Check for damage: If you notice a burning smell, stop using the vacuum immediately.
Regularly emptying the dust container and cleaning the filters are important parts of routine vacuum maintenance.
